Battlefield 6 community update: Battle royale testing begins, 100-player squads, insta-kill ring

EA and DICE used the Sept. 10 community update to confirm what fans have been waiting to hear. Battle royale is entering Battlefield Labs this week. Sign-ups are open, the test is under NDA, and the team is explicit about what makes this “Battlefield’s twist” on the formula.

The mode at a glance

  • Player count and squads: 100 players as 25 squads of four.

  • Map: A new, purpose-built battlefield with multiple POIs tailored for varied fights.

  • Vehicles: Ground transport is findable early, with unlockable armored vehicles that can swing late circles.

  • Tactical destruction: Breach walls, collapse structures, and reshape cover to win pushes.

  • Second chances: Support revives and Mobile Redeploy give teams ways back into the round.

  • The ring: No tick damage. Touch it and you are out. Urgent warnings push fights as space collapses.

Classes, leveling, and missions

You pick a class before the match and you cannot swap mid-round. Each class starts with two default gadgets, then levels through “Training” during the match by earning XP from kills, finishing squads, and completing missions. Leveling unlocks class traits, like faster armor-plate equip speed for Assault. Intel Cases grant squad-wide XP. Missions add mid-match objectives with airdropped rewards such as weapon caches, vehicle keys, or Mobile Redeploy units. Loot spans five weapon tiers, attachments, throwables, gadgets, Strike Packages like airstrikes, armor, and upgrade kits.

Why Labs first

Battlefield Labs is the franchise’s ongoing testbed. DICE wants hands-on data from controlled flights before a public rollout. The community team also

, a direct attempt to keep leaks and out-of-date info from muddying expectations.

How to get in Battlefield 6 labs testing?

Apply through the Battlefield Labs portal and join the official Discord for updates. Labs is starting with servers in North America and Europe, with plans to expand.

Will Battlefield 6's Battle Royale release at launch?

EA has not put a release window on the mode, and reporting suggests it will arrive after launch. Portal support and customization are also a live question, with recent datamining hinting at BR hooks there. For now, treat the Labs run as a proof of concept while DICE tunes circle pacing, mission risk-reward, and class balance.

Battlefield 6 release date

Battlefield 6 hits Oct. 10. If the Labs feedback holds, the BR will lean into what the series does best: squads, combined arms, and maps that change under pressure. The instant-kill ring and mid-match missions are the swing factors to keep an eye on.
