If you liked the first game’s talkative guns and offbeat sci-fi, the sequel looks bigger and more focused on movement and level design. Below is a clean rundown of the release date, platforms, story beats, core gameplay changes, and where to watch the latest footage.
When and where does High on Life 2 come out
Release date: February 13, 2026.
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Availability: Day one on Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.
You can wishlist it on Steam, PlayStation Store, and the Xbox listing.
Story setup
The sequel is set five years after the first game. You play as the now-famous bounty hunter whose life gets complicated fast when your sister Lizzie receives a bounty and a new enemy power structure targets humanity again. Expect the same mix of absurd sci-fi and bounty contracts, with a sharper chase plot pulling you through new districts and factions.
Gameplay: what’s new and what returns
A reworked structure with a central hub
The team has shifted the progression to a more interconnected layout that borrows from Metroidvania logic. You revisit areas with new tools to open shortcuts and secrets, instead of running a straight line of planet-to-planet missions.
Movement upgrades
You now have a skateboard you can pull out at any time. Levels are built with rails, ramps, and flow lines so you can grind, shoot on the move, and chain traversal with combat.
Guns with personalities remain the star
Talking weapons are back, with new faces in the arsenal. One highlight from previews is Sheath, a rifle-style Gatlian with an alternate impaling spike that doubles as a zip mechanic, voiced by Ralph Ineson. You also “meet” some weapons in very weird ways.
Side content inside the world
The sequel hides multiple fully playable retro-style games in the world. You find them and boot them up in-game for a change of pace.
Trailers and gameplay you can watch now
Reveal trailer from the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, which set the tone and showed the skateboard in action.
Extended gameplay from gamescom 2025 runs about 40 to 42 minutes and shows story beats, traversal, and combat pacing.
