Peaky Blinders sequel series: two seasons, new Shelbys, set in 1953 Birmingham

The Peaky Blinders universe is officially moving past Tommy Shelby’s era. A newly announced sequel show continues the saga with fresh lead characters, a new power struggle, and the city’s reconstruction as the backdrop. The order covers two seasons of six episodes each.

Release plan and partners

The sequel is a joint commission from Netflix and the BBC. It will air on the BBC in the U.K. and stream on Netflix worldwide. Production will run through Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham with Kudos and Garrison Drama producing. There is currently no release date.

Premise and timeline

The story begins in 1953, about a decade after World War II. Birmingham is rebuilding after the Blitz. The fight to control the city’s massive reconstruction program creates a new arena for the Shelby family, now led by the next generation. Expect opportunity and violence to rise together as rival groups try to own the contracts, unions, and supply lines that will shape the city.

How it connects to the film

The sequel follows the feature film that continues the original series. That film, titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, features Cillian Murphy and is positioned as a WWII-era chapter. The new show picks up later, with the family’s younger heirs at the center.

Peaky Blinders sequel series cast and creatives

Cast has not been announced. Steven Knight returns as creator and executive producer. Cillian Murphy is an executive producer on the sequel series. Additional executive producers include partners from Kudos and Garrison Drama, with BBC and Netflix executives aboard.

Episode count and format

Two seasons are ordered at six episodes each. That mirrors the structure of the original show and signals self-contained seasonal arcs inside a larger postwar thread.

Filming

Filming will take place in Birmingham and the West Midlands, using Digbeth Loc. Studios as a base. Regional partners are supporting the production push.

What is still unknown

  • Premiere dates

  • Full cast and directors

  • Whether any original characters appear in person, beyond producing roles
Those details will arrive closer to production. For now, the only certainty is the setting, focus on a new Shelby generation, and the two-season order.
