DC’s next Superman chapter is moving. James Gunn said cameras on Man of Tomorrow are set to roll in April 2026. He also praised Supergirl star Milly Alcock in unusually direct terms, calling her casting possibly the best decision he has made and adding, “I think she’s absolutely stunning in the movie.”
Filming starts in April next year
A spring 2026 shoot lines up cleanly with the announced July 9, 2027 release. That runway gives post-production a full year, and it places filming after Supergirl’s June 2026 launch and Clayface in September 2026, which is how Gunn has been framing the order of play for his “Superman Saga.”
Superman and Luthor’s uneasy alliance
Gunn confirmed that David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor will set aside rivalry to face a “much bigger threat.” He stopped short of naming the villain or force behind that description but framed it as a key driver of the sequel. The move keeps Superman’s most famous adversary close while twisting expectations of their dynamic.
About Milly Alcock's Supergirl
Gunn has been bullish on Alcock since she landed the role. This latest comment puts a finer point on it. “Might be the best casting I’ve done in my entire life,” he said, before doubling down with, “I think she’s absolutely stunning in the movie.”
