George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones world keeps moving on the screen (and not in the book stores.. yet).
One new series is locked for January 2026. House of the Dragon Season 3 is lining up for mid-year. A handful of prequels sit in development, including animated ideas. On the games side, a free-to-play action RPG launched this year and a PC RTS lands in 2026.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight - January 2026 on HBO and Max

What it is: A six episode prequel that adapts the first Dunk and Egg novella, set about a century before Game of Thrones. Ser Duncan the Tall is a newly made hedge knight. He meets a sharp, bald boy who calls himself Egg. Together they head to the tourney at Ashford Meadow, where pride, politics, and a Targaryen feud pull them into trouble that tests Dunk’s vows and Egg’s secrets. Expect a smaller, character driven story about chivalry, mercy, and class in the Reach.
Cast and creatives: Peter Claffey plays Dunk. Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg, the future Aegon V. Ira Parker serves as showrunner. Owen Harris directs early episodes. George R. R. Martin is an executive producer.
House of the Dragon season 3 - Summer 2026
Credit HBO
What it is: The Dance of the Dragons escalates. Season 3 moves into full war, opening with the Battle of the Gullet and leaning on dragonseed recruits who shift Rhaenyra’s fortunes. We are expecting new commanders on both sides and a focus on how the war shreds families and smallfolk while each faction hunts strategic strongholds. HBO’s chief says the premiere falls after the 2026 Emmy cutoff, which points to June or later. The plan is to end the series with season 4.

Aegon’s Conquest
In development. The pitch covers Aegon I Targaryen and his sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya, forging the Seven Kingdoms with dragons and diplomacy. No series order yet.
Ten Thousand Ships
Revived in 2024 with Pulitzer winner Eboni Booth scripting a new pilot about Nymeria leading her people from Essos to Dorne. Still unordered.
Animated slate
Nine Voyages about Corlys Velaryon’s travels shifted to animation to handle scope and locations. Martin says three animated shows are in development, none ordered yet.
Jon Snow sequel
Shelved. Kit Harington and HBO said it is off the table for now.
Game of Thrones feature film
Warner Bros and HBO confirm a theatrical idea is in very early development. No script, cast, or date. This is exploratory.
The strategy game
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros - 2026 on PC
Credit PlaySide
What it is: A premium real time strategy game from PlaySide. Conquer the Seven Kingdoms in a single player campaign or in multiplayer. You command Great Houses or even the Night King.
How it plays: Classic base building and army control with faction specific heroes and tech. Release window is 2026.
