Amazon MGM Studios has greenlit a live-action Life Is Strange adaptation for Prime Video, led by Charlie Covell with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap producing. The project focuses on the first game’s story of Max and Chloe in Arcadia Bay. As fans processed the news, one of the series’ original writers spoke up about who is, and is not, at the table.
What the writer said
Christian Divine, who co-wrote the original Life Is Strange and contributed to Life Is Strange 2, responded to the Prime Video announcement on social media. His statement was blunt: “The only people not involved are the creators.” The comment did not name specific individuals or detail any outreach, but it was clear about his view that the key creative team from the games is not part of the show.
Where the TV series stands
Prime Video’s order names Charlie Covell as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. The series is produced with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap. No cast or director has been announced. The show is set to adapt the first game, which centers on photography student Max Caulfield and her best friend Chloe Price.
Why the comment matters
Life Is Strange built its reputation on character voice, player choice, and a very specific Pacific Northwest tone. Hearing that original game creators are not involved will be a talking point for longtime players as the series moves into casting and production. It does not mean the adaptation cannot work, yet it sets expectations about authorship and creative continuity.
